I love trailers. I think there is a special skill to putting together a good trailer. It must capture the attention and entice an audience but give very little away so that the viewer doesn’t feel like they’ve already seen the movie. Very few trailers master this but there are many that try and get very close. Every day I will highlight a new trailer which manages to successfully get me excited for a movie. To start this daily feature we have one of the most exciting movies of the summer.
I’ve actually cheated for my first trailer of the day and linked to the extended trailer but there is a good reason why. The newest Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer starts with him videoing himself before some of the scenes from Captain America: Civil War and manages to capture what is going to make this version of Spider-Man so great – he is a kid again!
The wise-cracking, out-of-his-depth character returns and looks better than ever. The story seems toned back but large enough to be part of the wider Marvel Universe: especially with the inclusion of Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
If you watch all these trailers linked here it gives a chunk of the film away but Marvel are pretty good at keeping a secret or two in the actual movies. Plus, it is trailers like this that make Spider-Man Homecoming one of the most anticipated movies of the year.
Overall, to start a new feature and start feature week completely, it is a great marketing campaign by Marvel and Sony to introduce another new Spider-Man to the movies but more importantly to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. Can’t wait for this one.
