Dwayne Johnson Month: Trailer of the Week – Skyscraper

I love trailers. I think there is a special skill to putting together a good trailer. It must capture the attention and entice an audience but give very little away so that the viewer doesn’t feel like they’ve already seen the movie. Very few trailers master this but new trailers are released each week which try. Every Sunday I choose one of the better recent, new release trailers I’ve seen. The film may not be very good but have a great trailer or the movie could be awful but the trailer does enough to get me excited.

Trailer of the Week is back! What is even better is it has linked with Dwayne Johnson month perfectly. Next week sees the release of Dwayne Johnson’s second blockbuster this year and although I thought Rampage was solid (review coming soon) it looks nothing compared to Skyscraper.

Dwayne Johnson hasn’t hidden the two clear “inspirations” for his latest movie. If someone had asked if I wanted to see Johnson do his version of Die Hard though, the answer would always be yes! Johnson is the best action hero around at the moment and is delivering an old-school style of hero that we haven’t really seen since the eighties.

This film looks like it could be really entertaining. It has Johnson as more of an every-man rather than the ridiculously over-beefed hero he usually plays. He also has a prosthetic leg so there’s your character development sorted.

Overall, this week’s trailer mixes Die Hard, The Towering Inferno and Dwayne Johnson. What could possibly go wrong?

Even Johnson is aware of Skyscraper’s clear “inspirations.”
